Hardware Health Monitoring Issue

I have an issue with hardware health monitoring in my environment.

I have vCenter 6.0 and 3 clusters.

2 Clusters include IBM hosts and other one Include HP hosts.

In monitoring side I have NPM 12.01 SAM 6.3.0 VIM 7.0.0 WPM 2.2.1 and SRM 6.3.0.

I have also additional poller.

Vcenter and All ESXi servers poll through additional poller with SNMP and Vmware Polling.

Also I added vcenter to VMAN .

now problem is that Solarwinds dont show any Hardware Health info for this ESXi Servers

I installed OEM iso version of ESXi on each server.

Hardware health info for hosts shows successfully in vSphere webclient and also I check states in vCenter MOB. Every things is OK.

Also I checked "All Settings---> Manage pollers ---> Hardware Health Sensors" Scan Results is "Not a match".

Additional poller version also is the same with main solarwinds server.

I am so confused.

Any help could be great for my situation.

Monitor IBM x3650 with SAM

I am trying to add hardware health monitoring to a few IBM x3650s in a SAM installation.  The Hardware Health documentation indicates that I should install IBM Systems Director, but as it is now obsolete the remaining IBM download links only point to upgrades.  Where can I find the complete installation kit, or some alternative method to make this week?

It's somewhat frustrating that the documentation (Latest required software used to monitor hardware health - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support ) has not been updated in the nearly 2 years that IBM has stopped supporting Systems Director.  What am I missing?

Real time process explorer works on Windows not Linux

Hi all, on version 6.4 SAM Orion and trying to get the Real Time Process explorer working for Linux.


It works for Windows ok, but any Linux this option is missing.

 

My account permissions are setup as below on the SAM account, so looks ok.

 

Any ideas?

How to use new O365 Templates?

As mentioned in the release notes:  SAM 6.5 Release Notes - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support

 

There are a bunch of new Office 365 templates, but I'm unsure of how to use them.   Mainly, what "nodes" do you assign them too? and what O365 credentials do you need?  I'm finding virtually no documentation on how to use these.  Any help would be appreciated.

An error has occurred for task SolarWinds SCP Server Tray App

I keep seeing this error due to the specified account name is not valid.  Looking through the tasks and SolarWinds SCP server I was unable to find any tasks not set up to use local creds?  Can anyone help where to go to correct the old user ID and change it to local creds?

Why use SNMP Traps in Orion Alerts

Hello,

I'm not familiar with SNMP or SNMP Traps. I understand the basic concept, but I would like to know in what situation you would use a trap.

Considering that Orion and Orion SAM Alerts more or less are doing the same thing.

I noticed that Orion Alerts have an escalation level in which you can set a trap, this made me very curious.

So at the expense of sounding dumb.

What situations would be useful situations where you would like a trap triggered?

Does anyone have any cool alerts they created where having it trigger a trap was useful?


Linux monitoring script stopped working

A couple of days ago a Linux monitoring script stopped working (Server Clock Drift (Perl)). Now it's returning error:

 

Script file creation failed. -bash: cat: command not found

 

Checked permissions on the folder, no new server updates, no resource issues, no drive space issues, restarted the server, tried another poller, deleted the template/added it back to the server, deleted the server out of solarwinds all together, waited 20-30 minutes then added it back and still the same error. Anyone have any ideas?

Email Alert for Windows Event

Hi

 

I have created a windows event template for user account lockout. I want to send a email everytime a account gets locked out in any of my DC. I have used  the variable ${N=SwisEntity;M=ComponentAlert.WindowsEventMessages} which gives me full event message with header and subject as below

I have tried the below SWQL query to achieve this and it works.

 

SELECT message

FROM Orion.APM.WindowsEvent

where eventcode = 4740

order by timegeneratedutc desc

 

But the problem is if the event gets triggered on 2 different DC's (say DC1 and DC2) at the same time then the query will pull only last updated entry and displays the message containing same computer name and account  for both DC's.

 

 

Example : DC1 triggered first  and made a entry in database and immediately after few seconds DC2 triggered the event and made its entry in database. so when email is sent it will send 2 alerts with details of DC2 only since DC2 updated its entry last.

Monitoring AWS Organizations

We have several sub-organizations under our root AWS organization.  Is there a way to monitor those sub-orgs using only an IAM account in the root org or do I have to create a Solarwinds account inside of every organization?

Linux script execution error. There was an error processing the request.

This scream for help could actually have one of two different err messages, I'll try to explain:

I'm attempting to execute a python script in a SAM template deployed to an agent running on Raspbian(Stretch).

python ${SCRIPT}

When I test from within the template editing process, I get this:

Output Result:ND Get Output Failed:{"Message":"There was an error processing the request.","StackTrace":"","ExceptionType":""}

When viewing the application monitor after a poll attempt, the err on the component is shown as:
"Linux script execution error. No fields were recognized in the script output"

When I look at the debug log for the application on the agent, I see this:

Which leaves me confused.

I understand the err on the application page, because the outputs(Static.Pressure and Message.Pressure) are not defined.
But I can't define the output within the template if the output is not returned.
The script seems as though it is being interpreted absolutely perfectly because in the debug file, the output is shown as expected, without error.

I just can't figure out why that output isn't *seeming to be brought back when editing the template.

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Possible to monitor server startup and/or shutdown?

I am using Solarwinds Event Log Forwarder for Windows. I was hoping to have it forward Windows Event IDs 12 and 13 which indicate a Windows server startup and shutdown.

 

However, the Solarwinds Log Forwarder service is not running when a system records the Event IDs mentioned above. Either the service is stopped before the system logs the power off Event ID or the service has not yet started when a system logs the power on Event ID.

 

Is there any way to monitor server startup/shutdown with Event Log Forwarder?

SAM Template for ISE

Hello Community,

              Has anyone thrown together an Cisco ISE template for tracking the processes and other key areas of ISE? I have tried adding some of the SSH templates  and running the "show application status ise" however, they keep timing out at the prompt. Has anyone figured this out yet?

Powershell monitors not working - except for the AppInsights ones

Ok I have a weird situation here, our AppInsights monitors are working (including the Powershell components), but none of the other Powershell templates are. For instance the Symantec Endpoint Protection Client and Windows Update Monitoring Powershell monitors both fail to connect to the remote server.

The error I receive is:

PowerShell script error. Connecting to remote server <server ip> failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cannot process the request. Default authentication may be used with an IP address under the following conditions: the transport is HTTPS or the destination is in the TrustedHosts list, and explicit credentials are provided. Use winrm.cmd to configure TrustedHosts. Note that computers in the TrustedHosts list might not be authenticated. For more information on how to set TrustedHosts run the following command: winrm help config. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.

Our AppInsights are configured to use https while the other Powershell templates by default use http. I tried changing the template to use https with port 5986, that didn't resolve the issue and I receive the same error. Both ports 5985 and 5986 are listening on the servers, and I set the trusted hosts to * so it would accept all of our pollers.

Also, I have the templates set to inherit credentials from monitor.

 

Does anyone have any ideas here?

I realize the error points to WinRM but I don't think that's the issue. I checked the config and AppInsights are working.

Server Unavailable using WMI

Just installed APM 2 and cannot get it to poll servers using WMI.  The message I get is "Server Unavailable using WMI Unable to connect to "X.X.X.X" for WMI access.   I was able to verify that WMI is working on multiple servers with the appropriate credentials using your little free teaser application "Solarwinds Exchange Monitor", so I think that WMI is wokring on the servers.  I am guessing that this is coming from the poller, not the servers.


 Please let me know what I should look at to troubleshoot . . .

How do I apply thresholds to a node group?

I'm sure this has been documented and/or discussed somewhere, but just couldn't find it.  Basically, I have a group of nodes which all have the same partitions.  I need to set a threshold on that partition to alert if it fills to 98% capacity.  We have a few dozen of the machines already online, with plenty more inbound.  What's the best route to apply that threshold to all the nodes?  I like how the Application Monitor Templates can be assigned to groups, but wish the hardware monitoring had the same option (unless it already does).  Currently on SAM 6.4.0 if that helps and it's been included in a later version.

I have been trying to add a few nodes to SolarWinds SAM 6.4. I am using a domain user. I am able to add other nodes from the same domain into SW SAM using the same domain user, but for some nodes, it is not working. In the logs, I see this error. IP Address for the host '<hostname>' is missing. This user is already part of a Domain Admin group, because of which I am able to add other nodes using this user. But, I am able to remote login to those machines (with problems) using the same user. Also, I have added this user to the Administrators group on these machines explicitly, but it didn't help. I also tried turning off the firewall on these machines. But that also didn't help. Can anyone please help?

Alert when a service is running

I need to create a template to include a service monitor which stays green when not running and red when running.   How would you do that? I don't see any option available in my SAM 6.5.
