I'm monitoring a SQL 08 R2 server that currently hold a few databases. I have an alert showing the spt_values table in the master DB is 80% fragmented, well beyond the critical threshold of 50%. See the attached screenshot.
My research online generally says no to rebuild or re-index that table. The fragmentation is concern and I'm trying to identify if its part of the performance issues were experiencing.
Can anyone help explain what may be going on here? What is the best course of action to correct it?
Some background on the server:
-2008 R2 VM (VMWare) running SQL 2008 R2
-storage is a group of equalllogic SAN's running 7500 RPM SATA disks in a raid 50. This is a shared storage environment and is not dedicated to this server
Thanks in advance!
