Chart not er..charting

Morning.

I made a custom chart in solarwinds as part of a contact for a customer requires us to check and received data from their image scanning environment.  Ideally the chart should look something like this:

After seeing there was no edit button, I made a call to solarwinds who said that a hotfix would resolve my problem...which didn't resolve my problem.

Their other suggesting was to update our environment to hopefully resolve this issue.  Which we can't do as our old environment is unlicenced/unlicensed.  So after some messing about on the Unix box (weirdos having Unix on there) I kinda worked my way around with the help of the solarwinds SAM team to make another custom chart pointing to the correct pointers.

When I produce the report I get the following:

Again, having a chat with the SAM team, they have told me that this is a 'bug' within SAM 6.3 and that..dun dun dunnn SAM 6.4 does not fix it.  It might fix it in a much later patch, but for now, it's not working.  Which I can't exactly leave.

From what solarwinds are telling me I need to merge some SQL rows to hopefully make it work.

If anyone has a way of making it work of advice or guidance, that would be wonderful as this is contract dependant.

hi guys,

I want to be able to export the data from the received mail chat for app insight for a particular mailbox into excel for some reporting that we are doing.

I have had a hunt around the database but even in the views and tables I can only get the data for the last 24 hours not historical data,

the weird thing is that both the table and view that I found

[SolarWindsOrion].[dbo].[APM_ExBbCurrentMailboxes]

[SolarWindsOrion].[dbo].[APM_ExBB_Mailbox]

have colums called

DELL VRTX Hardware monitoring/visualization?

Hello, is there an easy way to monitor/visualize and alert DELL VRTX chassis HW including the drives etc?

I'm connected to the CMC and can see fans, power supplies and temps but not the built in switch nor HDDs nor the PERCs.

I see there is a .MIB file that can be downloaded from the VRTX controller - will that be needed?

I'm running SAM 6.3.

Synthetic test for fat clients?

$

We have the need to run synthetic testing on our fat clients and report the results back to our Solarwinds Orion installation.

The application in question is a GUI application running on Windows 8.1 tablets, which was created with Modern App for Windows.  It connects via NetTCP back to some front end servers here in our corporate headquarters.

What we need is a tool that would be able to sign in to the application, do one or two simple transactions, and then sign out…reporting on success/fail for the login, and on each action.

Back before everyone switched over to web pages and Java, there were literally dozens of these sorts of apps.  The way they worked was to start a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) program which was capable of recording keystrokes.  Then, you would key a special code to begin recording, sign into your application, and perform some actions.  To halt recording, you’d key another special keycode sequence.  Once you had a recorded sequence, you could simply activate your recorded keystrokes (the “script”) and run your application as many times as you saw fit, entirely automated.

I went looking for such a mechanism on Solarwinds.com and was surprised to find that I couldn't find any.

Does anyone know if Orion has such a method?  Perhaps as a sub-set of another toolset?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Recreate Top 10s for Periods Longer Than Last 24 Hours

I'm interested in recreating the queries that create the Top 10s, but want them to reflect, for instance, Top 10 Nodes by Average CPU Load for the last 30 days. My SQL game isn't the strongest, as I am still relatively inexperienced. I have the code that runs the canned Top 10s, but the database is so huge and complicated I'm having trouble determining what I need to pull from to look at the last 30 days of data. Has anyone else attempted this?

How are agent plugins installed?

I am trying to deploy the agent to a number of servers in multiple locations. Each location has two servers, one Windows 2008R2, one Windows 2012R2. The servers are identical for each location. The agent seems to deploy to each server just fine. The problem is not all plugins get installed, but is not consistent among locations or servers. What does the installer look for in order to load all the plugins, and can I manually force them to install?

The Core Polling, Job Engine and NetPath Agent Plugins get installed on all servers. Other servers also get SAM, Asset Inventory, Hardware Health, Interfaces Polling, Interfaces WMI Polling, and VIM Agent plugins. There is no consistency among server types or locations. Also, different versions seem to get installed. I am deploying them all from Solarwinds the same way.

Current environment:

Orion Platform 2016.1.5300

IVIM 2.1.2

DPA 10.0.1

NPM 12.0

QoE 2.1.0

NTA 4.2.0

NetPath 1.0

SAM Failover Cluster Monitor - "Resource Control Manager: Groups Online" is Critical

$

I am monitoring a Windows 2012 Cluster for our SharePoint SQL databases.  We have been having intermittent cluster failovers that are momentarily bringing the cluster down.  I've been reading the Thwack documentation for Windows 2012 failover clustering monitors, and I find the following description for Resource Control Manager: Groups Online:

This monitor returns the number of online cluster resource groups on this node. The returned value should be above zero at all times.

I am unclear as to specifically what this is measuring.  I have a production cluster and a test cluster.  On both nodes of the test cluster this monitor is up on both the primary and secondary nodes.  On the production cluster, it is showing the primary node as a returned value of 1 and on the secondary node, a returned value of 0.  It is showing the monitor on the secondary node as critical.   Any thoughts as to why this might be?  Any other information that would be useful in troubleshooting?

Thank you for your time!

Serial APC UPS - via apcupsd

$

I am new to snmp (and perl), but not to linux and sysadmin. I need to present an APC UPS unit to Solarwinds Orion SAM. The UPS is connected via serial to a Raspberry Pi running apdupsd (apcupsd | A daemon for controlling APC UPSes) - which works fine as I can poll it manually.

I've found a perl script (GitHub - jirutka/apcupsd-snmp: Apcupsd module for Net-SNMP ) that says:

> simply put the following line to your snmpd.conf file: perl do "/path/to/mod_apcupsd.pl";

But I get:

> No more variables left in this MIB View (It is past the end of the MIB tree)

when I try to walksnmp at the appropriate OID manually as suggested by the author. So snmpd seems to be running properly - but not the perl script.

So my problem is: I can't bridge the gap from snmp to apcaccess - which is what the perl script claims to do. I get the feeling that I am missing something basic here. Is the snmpd.conf file supposed to allow snmpd to directly execute the perl script when polled by Orion? That seems... wrong. Or is there another step that I have missed?

Any help is appreciated, even if it's just a link to a relevant snmp admin page or a keyword for a search.

Thanks in advance.

Monitoring HP Proliant hardware running Windows & vSphere

Hi all,

Has anyone successfully managed to get SAM to monitor their HP Proliant kit, whether it is G5, G6, G7 or Gen8 and return the following info:

- Overall hardware health status

- Individual hardware component monitors INCLUDING individual disk health, not just logical array. From what I can tell it will alert on a failed disk within an array but it still doesn't show the physical view.

- Under Asset info, all firmware revisions including individual disk models and firmware. Currently this is inconsistent between models.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm pretty green to SAM in general so still finding my way around the monitors and templates :-)

Cheers,

Ben

Setting threshold using baseline

Hi All

I am using baseline data to set Warning and Critical Thresholds. I'd ideally like to set the following as thresholds.

Warning : 10 % more than baseline .{BASELINE} + {0.1 * BASELINE}

Critical : 20 % more than baseline .{BASELINE} + {0.2 * BASELINE}

How can I put this as a formula which SolarWinds can understand ?

SAM Cross Domain Node Discovery, Port Requirements

Hi all,

I have just installed SAM on one of our Dev servers. I am looking to implement an agentless solution for monitoring our infrastructure. Apologies if this question has already been answered but I could not find an answer to my problem. If an answer has been posted, please point me to the link.

My issue is as below:

My SAM is installed on a Windows 2012 server in Domain A. I am able to add any machine from domain A using admin credentials without a hitch.

However, when I try to add a node from Domain B using admin credentials, it cannot find any machines to add in wizard mode. If I try and add a single node, it still fails. When I click to test credentials, it fails the validation. I have opened port 135 through firewall on Domain B.  I am able to Telnet from SAM to Domain B server. Is there anything that I am missing.

Thanks for your help.

AppInSight for IIS SSL Cert Unknown, Binding on IP?

Hello All,

So I am working on this and I have found a few issues with AppInsight for IIS that I have some questions about. The first has to do with the SSL certs seem to be based on IP:ports and not on sites??. So the Apps Button is always Red or Unknown. Other than unmanage the whole site I do not see away around this?

Second, The HTTP and HTTPS Bindings are on and off all the time, also appears to be binding to IP. I have put URLs in but it is always seems to go up and down all the time. I have no clue how to fix this.

These AppInsight Templates are kind of a pain because they are not configurable. Who though a non-configurable template was a good idea?

Greatest Invention Ever!

There are countless important inventions. Only ten are allowed here, so...I know you lot are creative, and I did only play the basics so... (I voted for cuticle remover. Why? Because the cuticle is that piece of skin that starts at the base of your fingernail and you then tear back until it reaches your elbow. Yuck!) GAME ON!

Other than read it, what would you do if you actually printed out the roughly 2,300 pages of the SAM Admin Guide?
