I am creating a TCP port monitor to monitor ports on Red hat servers using SAM 6.6.
But the monitor is behaving weird as it is showing down while the Port on the server is reachable.
Any idea about this behavior.

I have a process monitor that I would like to configure an alert for when the process reaches a specific threshold in megabytes. How do I set this up in Alert Manager so it's looking specifically at the memory used by that process, instead of the memory use of the server as a whole?
Thanks,
Tommy
Hi all,
My company has recently moved to Office 365. I have been tasked with creating monitoring for Office 365 Tenant Health, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Skype for Business Online. I know that there are a bunch of resources and templates for Office 365 Tenant Health and a few templates for Exchange Online, that I am using, but I have few questions about what else to monitor in Exchange Online and what things to monitor in SharePoint Online and Skype for Business Online.
1.) Besides what is provided in the SolarWinds templates, what else are you looking to monitor in Exchange Online?
2.) What things are people monitoring in SharePoint Online and Skype for Business Online?
3.) Has anyone used the v2 API for connecting to the Office 365 Tenant Health and what documentation did you use to create the O2Auth Token?
Thanks for any help you guys can give,
Steve H.
Hi Everyone,
I'm running into an issue where I want a faster update on my Users by Mailbox Size report. Even an hour after I've ran the report, the mailboxes don't reflect the new DataStore they are now on. I looked for rediscover type options that would force a re-look into the mailbox / datastore info and didn't see anything that jumped out.
Any recommendations? Thanks! Brent
Hi guys, I come to SAM from the SCOM world. In SCOM we write discoveries to dynamically discover objects to monitor. For example, if I wish to monitor a disk, I write a discovery to discover all disks and then that single discovery will dynamically create instances of all logical disks against my target. If i write a service discovery, it will create a service resource against that target. Does SAM not have anything comparable?
Hi,
Is there any way in Solarwinds, via which we can fetch the information of all local admin accounts for each of the servers.
This needs to be used by security team to know if any unused admins are a part of Administrator group of each of the server.

Ujjwal
Hello Everyone,
I would like to monitor autosys job failure using log file error. Kindly let me know the template to monitor log-file with regex\pattern match in SAM.
Ex:
Log Error: [07/20/2018 00:06:55] CAUAJM_I_40245 EVENT: CHANGE_STATUS STATUS: FAILURE JOB: xxxxxxxx MACHINE: xxxxx EXITCODE: 1
Error Pattern: <*>JOBFAILURE<*>JOB:<*.jobname>MACHINE:<*.machine>EXIT<*>
If anyone know please help me on this issue.

Dear all,
We are preparing to install Orion platform 2018.2 with npm , nta , in a virtual machine with Windows 2012 R2. But confused with the option whether to go with 'Enterprise' or 'Standard'. Could some one can help me to understand it correctly.
I believe both versions are supported. Kindly validate my understanding
FYI: we aware of the fact that 2012 is depreciated as part of current release.
Hi all, sorry for asking for help but I'm just trying to get as much info as I can currently. Orion 2017.2 (DB OS version limited, almost ready to upgrade)
Story so far:
So, we've got an APE on Windows Server 2016, and it's saying "unexpected shutdown" sometimes when I log into it. Logs tenuously point towards VMM restarting it. We move it off VMM and onto a dedicated plain ol' Hyper-V (2016) host. Now it says "heartbeat lost" on the host, and the server itself just hangs at a black screen when you try to log in, now and then. The only "fix" is to give it a hard reset from the host, and then it's all fine when it comes up. We investigated a few issues such as the TermServer service issue that got fixed in previous Windows patches, and none of those leads produce anything. Long story short, we opened a call with Microsoft and gave them a couple of full dumps and they have come back with...
"Uninstall SWJobEngineWorker"
So you see why I'm here.
The claim is that RPCSS is breaking, and with it the server. Yet, polling will carry on when the server 'breaks', and we can get up to date info and edit nodes etc. RPC is hitting 20,000 threads or so. We have a MPE and another 2 APE with similar load, a spread of OS's and no issues (not like that at least )
I'm putting in a support call with the Solarwinds team when I get in on Monday, but I wanted to ask the community in case anybody else has encountered this, I'd love to know where other people have gone to fix it.
Thanks all!
Hello All,
I am trying to get an idea of the best way to manage my users and give them only the access that they need. I have inherited this project and I have to clean up the previous guy's mess. Right now, about 100 people have their access limitations set to "none". I am looking to change that. Can some of you give me an idea of how you have your users access configured? Does management have their access limitations set to none and most everyone else has their access limited to the servers in the groups that they manage? Just looking for some ideas.
I want to copy the AppInsight for SQL template to better customize specific monitors. However when I try to copy the template the copy feature is grayed out. Also I cannot delete specific monitors within the template itself.
Is there a way to customize the AppInsight for SQL template?
My company is looking to enable auto scaling groups in AWS. Per our security team, we are not allowed to use only SNMP or WMI monitoring on instances in AWS (too many ports to open from our on prem SolarWinds environment). Are only option for monitoring in AWS is to use the SolarWinds agent. When the automation team spins up a server using Auto Scaling groups, I do not see the "server name" in the agent listings in SolarWinds. I only see ip-xx-xxx-xxx-xx.domain.com where xxx is the ip address of the instance. The server name is set as a tag in AWS.
My question to the forum is:
1.) how does your company handle auto scaling groups in AWS?
2.) is there a way in SolarWinds to get the tags listed in AWS?
3.) is there a way to automate populating custom properties using the API
4.) is there a way to automatically assign application monitoring using the API?
5.) What are your experiences with servers that get destroyed and rebuilt and how you monitoring those servers using SolarWinds?
Thanks,
Steve H
I am trying to best understand what the best practices are for monitoring a SQL Failover Cluster. My scenario is as follows:
SQL Server 1
SQL Server 2
SQL VIP
I add both the actual SQL nodes into Orion as well as the SQL VIP. All of the resources that follow the VIP are monitored on the VIP node. The part I am struggling with is how best to do the application layer monitoring. The SQL Performance monitoring via AppInsight is typically applied on the SQL VIP so it follows the active node.
Where is the best place to put the Microsoft Windows Failover Cluster app monitor, on the SQL Servers or on the VIP?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this!
Good morning.
I have a problem with an app on some Linux servers. They keep going up and down in terms of if they're being monitored. I have done and SNMP walk, removed and added the apps, restarted the services, I haven't rebooted the servers as I can't turn off/on and reboot as I want to as these are the most important servers for the clients services.
The error that is received when the app is down is: SNMP monitor execution error. Timeout.
I have found a couple of articles:
"SNMP Monitor Execution Error. Timeout" when using snmpv3
And an article about it on soalrwinds site.
Problems in SAM with SNMP Process Monitors failing - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support
Is this something on the server end, as I suspect. Or something on the solarwinds end?
I am trying to monitor task scheduler jobs on windows server. How can I do that. I tried using tempalate windows task scheduled tasks but somehow it doesnot lead me to the application and component monitor. I am using SAM 6.2.2.
Please asssist.
What hardware platforms would you most like to see integrated with SAM to support capabilities such a hardware health?
