Appinsight for Exchange Certificate error

My appinsight has done this twice.

 

i'll receive an error stating that its status is unknown because the server certificate has expired, after troubleshooting i am unable to clear the error, but when i come back in the next day Appinsight is polling again and the error is no longer there.

 

both exchange servers have self signed certs from solarwinds that were issued during the auto configure that solarwinds does when first adding appinsight to them.

i have reconfigured them using the auto configure, but the error still shows up, then in the middle of the night they clear.

 

any thoughts on what this could be.

Hi All,

 

We have recently purchased SAM and installed 6.2.0 - so far we are very happy with it except for a few small bedding in issues.

 

I have logged 2 support cases already for other issues, but I'm hoping this is an easy one to fix, so I thought I'd post here!

 

Anyway, we have AppInsight for IIS configured on quite a few servers, but on 2 servers that have the same roles, the status has been stuck on unknown.  This is because of one particular IIS site, and its SSL Certificate WMI Monitor returning an unknown status.

 

The error is as follows:

Unexpected error occurred. Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

 

Does anyone have an idea on what this could be, keeping in mind its on a particular IIS site and all the others are fine?

AppStack and Volume Critical

Okay, so we are on the latest and greatest of everything. We have NPM, SAM, NTA, IPAM, and WPM. In the Appstack Environment view, I have volumes that are showing up as red (critical) but aren't. See image. When going into the node everything seems fine and volumes are definitely not critical. This is happening for a whole bunch of nodes. Any ideas why this might be?

Missing volumes after renaming a label

Hi,

 

Our technician have renamed a lot of volumes. I have added some to Solarwinds.

 

The problem now is that you can see the old and the new in Solarwinds:

(last C;\ and D:\ are the old one)

 

1. How can I find out in a quick way which drives are renamed?

2. If I need to do this with a query (I have read about this) how do I apply a query? Yes I know I am missing some basic skills I think

 

I have fount an article here: Remove old volumes but when I am applying the query(I think I am doing this right) I get this error: ToString is not a recognized built in function name.

 

And does somebody know if there are working on a solution so that volumes names that are being changed this will be seen as an error?

SAM WMI vs Agent monitoring

I just upgraded to SAM 6.2 and among other things, deployed the agent to a few servers for some testing. When I changed the servers polling mode from WMI to Agent, I got a warning that all historical data not supported by the new mode would be deleted, along with a link to 'polling mode comparisons'. The problem is the link really didn't say much with regards to what is supported by each mode. One would think that the agent would likely be able to do pretty much everything the other modes could do.

 

One thing I noticed in my 'Manage Nodes' page is that the servers that I deployed the agent to no longer can be expanded to show the NIC, Physical Memory, Virtual Memory or volumes. Is it not able to monitor these? Can the agent monitor everything, or are there things it can't monitor that WMI can?

Attempting to use SQL Customer Experience Monitor for custom SQL query to remote database

Hello,

 

     Based on some of the information I have gathered from the forums, I am attempting to use the SAM (APM) SQL Customer Experience Monitor to execute a custom SQL query against a remote database. After i configured the monitor with all of the required information I am getting an error when testing the monitor against the node which hosts the database. The error is illustrated below...

I have verified with my database guy that the correct instance name is being used and the server is configured to allow remote connections. I think the issue is related to it being a SQL Cluster, the instance name refers to the clusters virtual name and not the actual host name of the server which is what Orion is using as the targeted test node. Any comments or help would be greatly appreciated.

ESX Hardware Status

I'm receiving the following error on one of my ESX hosts and am looking for a way to clear it.

 

" Hardware polling failed: Polling of chassis (CIM_Chassis class) failed. ThreadPool --- Failed to enqueue request. Too many queued requests already: vmware_base, active 5, queued 11Help me fix this."

 

After clicking on the "Help me fix this" link and following the steps it has still not cleared.

Sharepoint 2013 HTTPS monitor failing

I'm trying to monitor several sites on a Sharepoint 2013 cluster using the HTTPS monitor, but they all fail with the error The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.

 

The page should be the typical "Please tell us why you need access", but this isn't the usual 401 Unauthorized error. I have Follow Redirect set to Follow. I have tried Do Not Follow, same result.


This problem does not occur on Sharepoint 2010 sites (with the Follow Redirect set to Do Not Follow.)


We're using SAM 6.1.1 currently.

SAM 6.0 RTM - Cannot remove some resources from Manage Nodes - List Resources

I am running SAM 6.0 RTM (previously RC3) and just noticed that I am not able to remove AppInsight for SQL from a node under Manage Nodes - List Resources.  I also cannot make changes to any checkboxes under Volume Utilization.  Every time I submit a change, nothing happens, and I can return and see that the old settings are still there -- AppInsight is still selected, for example.  I can make changes to selected network interfaces.

 

In the attached image, for every item circled I am unable to submit changes.  The submit process does appear to succeed though.  The others I'm afraid to try as I don't want to lose any historical data.

 

Any idea what's going on?

Getting "No valid data was received" from SMTP Monitor for IIS

Good morning! I am trying to figure out why SW SAM cannot get info from the SMTP port. I verified that the firewall is allowing connections and Mcafee is not blocking it. I tried the old telnet localhost 25 trick, which does get me connected but as soon as I hit any key to begin troubleshooting SMTP it exits me out. Any help is MUCH appreciated!

Default SAM views

We are on SAM 6.2 and I have noticed that the default views are all identical. For example the Active Directory, Exchange, SQL Server, IIS and Windows views are each their own unique view page, but they all have the exact same content on them. I would have expected the Exchange view by default would only show information about the servers with exchange application monitors on them.

 

I haven't messed with those SAM views so this should be how they were by default. I just wanted to make sure they are supposed to come like that. I can filter the views if need be, but I would have thought SolarWinds would do that by default.

Log Parser (powershell) w/Message Returned

AppInsight for SQL database object

We recently setup the AppInsight for SQL and everything seems to be working except for one thing. By default there is a table called All Databases and it shows the status and size of each database on that server. The list of databases are click-able and I would think when clicked it would take you to historical stats or something, but when we click on any databases on any of the monitored servers it gives an error page saying "Unexpected Website Error Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Are we not supposed to be able to click the database objects or is there something wrong with our SolarWinds?

Component status unknown

HI All,

 

I have an issue with my SOLARWIND .. The component status is unknown for a NODE..No Valid data was received .

 

and also saying "   No valid data was received. The server principal "ABC\ principalName" is not able to access the database "DB1" under the current security context.

 

Please kindly help

Hi All,

 

Recently we have migrated our primary engine from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 server. We have 4 additional polling engines also in Windows 2008. After the migration one of the Oracle user experience monitor components is showing the below error.

 

Oracle returned an error. ORA-12737: Instant Client Light: unsupported server character set EL8ISO8859P7

 

We have Oracle client installed in all the polling engines. Ealrier also we were having the same installed in primary.

 

Issue is components in two Oracle DBs only have this error. Other DBs are working fine.

 

Any one please help me to get this sorted out.

 

 

Not all nodes available in syslog

Good afternoon Thwack-Community!

 

The menu syslog (./Orion/NetPerfMon/Syslog.aspx) offers a good on the fly possibility to view the log entries of a specific node via web.

Although some nodes are missing at the filter device settings (network objects).

 

So the question is: What it necessary, so that additional nodes show up in the filter selection?

Create an alert based on event log monitor for Exchange

Hello all,

 

I'm not sure if this would fall under NPM/SAM, but essentially I'd like to trigger an audible alert when we received a specific event ID within SAM's Event Log Monitor for Exchange. The event ID is 15004 and the message goes something like "The resource pressure increased from normal to high".

 

If you've never run into this event ID before, it basically means that your e-mail servers have temporarily stopped receiving and sending mail due to them reaching a resource threshold. Typically for us, it is when someone sense an abnormally large e-mail (100MB+). Now, because e-mail is not working, I don't want to use e-mail as the trigger action so I thought an audible alert would be good since someone should be nearby our NOC area.

 

The problem is, I can't seem to find the right combination of conditions to do this. Does anyone have the time and patience to help me out?

After interacting with all of my co-workers and product users, I realized that the software development process can be...entertaining, to say the least. Trust me, if you're a geek, there are some strange characters here, especially me. I would watch religiously. Be great marketing too. We can name it something slick like, "Developers," or "Thwack Men."


At least you wouldn't lose IQ points by watching our show. (Although, I must confess that I have watched the other shows I've listed...and screamed in agony from time to time.)

SAM Report Manager

I have a question concerning Report Manager - I have several reports that run at various times. The reports attach either an HTML or PDF copy of the reports and e-mails them to my management and my team.  This weekend we made a changed to IIS.  The change  was:  we added the AD Client Certificate Authentication feature to the Web server (IIS 8.5).  Then at the SolarWinds NetPerfMon site we implemented Client Certificates "Required"  The setting before was "Ignore".  The scheduled reports still execute as planned but now the file attachments are no longer included.  There is only a link to the reports in the e-mail.

 

 

Is this a by-product of requiring client certificates.  Is there any way around this.  I'm sure I can switch the SSL settings for the SolarWinds NetPerfMon site to Client Certificates = Accept and that will probably fix the reports issue.  But that does not force PKI auth to the site which is our desired end state.
