Hello,
We are in the process of a huuuuge migration of our existing Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) environment into SolarWinds. Windows and Linux appear to be moving pretty smoothly with the exception of some SNMP, system account, firewall, access issues. AIX is another story. The point of this thread is to gain insight from the SW world in the best practices of AIX monitoring with SolarWinds. We are exploring the AIX application monitoring template, and that appears to fulfill some of our LPAR monitoring needs. How do folks monitor VIO? How about HMC? They both present challenges due to access issues with their restricted shells. For instance, we cannot directly SNMP to either VIOs or HMCs. How does one get around this? Is the best manner to piggyback scripts onto a utility LPAR with SSH keys between the utility LPAR and the VIOs and HMCs? Then create a custom template to execute that script? How does one monitor for frame level physical utilization of CPU and memory resources? How does one monitor VIO devices and paths within the VIO application layer of the VIO server?
As you can see, there are a lot of questions. We are trying to build a strategy to tackle these challenges, but we would love to see if there are folks in the SW community who have already blazed a trail in the AIX monitoring space and would be willing to share their insights. We appreciate anything that can be provided even if it involves more questions that help us with the bigger picture.
Thanks.
