SAM Permissions

I have concluded a trial, and my customer has purchased SAM as their monitoring software of choice :-)

Now the fun really starts...  Instead of using my account to do the installation, and a domain admin account that belongs to my customer, the suggestion is to setup a service account.  As I've not been able to find a suggested "full list" of required permissions, I thought to ask here what permissions would be required to ensure we have adequate coverage.  The environment looks like:

  • 4 VMware ESXi 5 node cluster with one vCenter server (Virtual).
  • Approximately 55 VMs running mostly custom apps (all Windows based)
  • SQL 2008 (VM),
  • Citrix Presentation Manager (physical and VM)
  • a ton of web servers
  • 5 physical HP servers for Citrix, AD
  • AD (NO print services or Exchange, or File services... that's done by another group)
  • Hitachi AMS 2500 Raid Array (was able to monitor this using SNMPv1)
  • HP P2000 Raid Array (SNMP)
  • No Networking or SAN monitoring (again, done by another group).

Literally, this is only Server and Application monitoring, reporting and alerting.

Other than SQL roles, what are the suggested permissions to get WMI coverage of the Windows servers?
