APPInsight for SQL template question

After applying the APPInsight template to a couple of SQL servers for evaluation I have noticed some strange (to me) behavior.

1) The resource "All Databases" is sometimes populated and sometimes not. On the 5 servers that I initially set up, I set the template to monitor all databases on the server. At different times, when I navigate to the appinsight page for the server I will see all, some or none of the databases I am monitoring.

2) often I will see a critical or warning alarm for one of these servers ( I haven't adjusted any of the template thresholds at this time) and when I go to the server to see what caused it, the "active alerts" resource is empty and I am forced to wade through the template until I find a component that appears to be out of tolerances.

3) In one particular instance, a database showed that VSS Writer was in a critical state on one of the servers. When I clicked on that component to try to determine the cause, the associated page confirmed that the component was in a critical state, but gave me no indication as to why. All of the graphs displayed showed no ranges that would be considered "normal" or "critical" so  I could not tell how out of whack the current condition was from the "normal" baseline.

I'm a network guy who configures the solarwinds server and not up on SQL at all. It is probable that I am just going about reading the page incorrectly, but I thought I'd ask nonetheless.
