Directory size monitors will not poll

Currently monitoring four directories on a Windows server using the Directory Size monitor. The server is a VM that has 4GB RAM (1.4GB used) and two 2.66GHz CPUs. Using the same credential for all four component monitors, two of the components are up, but the other two will not come up at all unless the "include subdirectories" box is unchecked. I do not think it is a permissions issue. I did notice something very interesting when watching the Performance tab in Task Manager at the time I test the components. Referring to the screenshot, the two plateaus on the left represent the CPU trace when testing the two components that pass, while the jagged and shorter traces are those of the two components that cannot be polled. When testing one of these components, I also see the Windows process "wmiprvse" listed as using the most CPU cycles (~50%).

Does anyone have any ideas what would cause these components to pass only when "include sub-directories" is NOT checked?

Thanks for any insight
