We have recently changed all of our servers over to using SNMP for their NPM polling and by doing so, our SAM component monitors that were configured to use WMI with the credentials assigned to the host have broke. I'm looking to see if anyone knows of any advantages/disadvantages to using the Service Status - SNMP component monitor, compared to the Windows Service Monitor that's using WMI. We are maintaining 3 domains internally and I would prefer to not have to make 3 variations of every template with admin creds for each domain on each one or have to go touch every application monitor to override the template with the right credentials to monitor the status on the host.
For the component monitors that are outside of services start/stop/etc I can create separate templates using WMI and assign them accordingly but for the simple purpose of knowing a service "status", this appeared to be the easiest way for our situation. Is there any disadvantage to this over WMI that anyone is aware of before I start creating a pile of templates and application monitors?
Thanks
