I just cannot grasp the concept of SAM's polling frequency/timeout. The way that I understand it now is say for example you are testing port 80 (http) and you have the following setup:
HTTP on Server1 (port 80)
Polling frequency: 300
Polling timeout: 60
To me, this means that Solarwinds "checks on" http on Server1 every 5 minutes to make sure that it is up by sending a test to it. The test lasts 60 seconds, and will timeout if it doesn't pass within that 60 seconds.
What are the purposes of having the frequency timeout? Is the dara more granular if you poll it more often?
Can someone plese explain what polling frequency vs. timeout is and give me some examples? It would be easier for me to understand if we already had some setup.
I am new to Solarwinds and networking in general, I ask ALOT of basic questions, and I appreciate all of your input! It has been a huge help!
