I have a need to restart a service based upon certain events in the event log. The service never stops or hangs, but when we have an issue it can be identified by an error in the event log which we check for using SAM. Restarting the service clears the issue. All the documentation I have found about restarting services seems to be based on monitoring the server and passing the component ID.
Worst case I reboot the server on the event, which is what the help desk does today, but I would prefer to use the most intrusive message available.
