Disk Space Alerting Using a Variety of Threshold Types

I'm sure I wrote this solution at some point in the past but can't find it and someones asked a question where this solution could be used so I've created this document.

This document will take you through setting up volume space monitoring using a mix of physical space remaining, percentage remaining or even to create exclusions for any volume in your environment whilst using just one alert to cover all eventualities. This solution allows you to also have a mix of these solutions on different drives of the same server.

To accomplish this it requires three parts:

  1. Create the custom fields
  2. Create the alert
  3. Applying thresholds

1. Let start by creating the following Custom properties applied to volume object:

2. Now create the alert along with your required defaults for those volumes either not set with thresholds or fallback for misconfured thresholds, think of them as global thresholds:

3. And finally lets apply the settings to a drive:

Search for the server in node management "/orion/nodes/default.aspx" and expand it to see the drives listed, tick the drive or multiple drives and click 'edit':

(nb. ignore the 'autodelete temp' field above, this is related to something else).
